Dover Rewind
Inside Line
Jeff Burton ended a 175 NEXTEL Cup race drought with a win in Sunday's Dover
400 at Dover International Speedway.
Keys to Victory Lane
Burton passed Matt Kenseth with six laps to go and went on to win his 18th
career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series event.
Zero to Hero
Martin Truex, Jr. started 33rd and came back to post a sixth-place finish.
Hero to Zero
Kenseth had by far the best car of the day, rallying back from an early race
pit road miscue to take the lead, but rather than pitting for tires and
fuel, handed the race to Burton and dropped to tenth.
Rookie of the Race
For the first time in 2006 Truex, Jr. was the best of three rookies in the
top 10 with a sixth-place finish. Clint Bowyer was eighth and Denny Hamlin
ninth.
Notables
Bobby Labonte started 26th and gave Petty Enterprises another top 10 finish
with a seventh. Reed Sorenson led early and although he faded, still managed
an 11th-place finish. And Dave Blaney came up just short of a third straight
top 10 run with a 12th-place finish in the Caterpillar Dodge.
What's the Points?
Burton shot to the top of the standings with Gordon now second only six back
while Kenseth and Hamlin are tied for third 18 back and Kevin Harvick fifth
now 54 out of the lead.
RacingOne Rating
On a scale of one to ten umbrellas (since the weather gurus were predicting
a monsoon that didn't hit until after the race thankfully), we'll give
Sunday's Dover 400 a solid eight. Not one of our favorite tracks, Dover is
starting to change our minds with some great side-by-side racing on display
again on Sunday, led by the thrilling late-race battle between Burton and
Kenseth. Some "Chase" drama thrown into the mix made Sunday's race a fun
watch. Now it's off to the Great Midwest and next Sunday's Banquet 400 at
Kansas Speedway.
